Who Are They

In February 2007, a group of LGB individuals came together to discuss the possibility of setting up a new LGB youth group after the closure of Stand Out (a LGB youth group which had been running since 1997). After endless meetings, emails, phone calls Norwich Area LGB Youth Group was ready to open its doors for the first time. On 25th April 2007 we welcomed our first group of young LGB people through the door. It was (and still is) a great feeling of achievement and pride in giving back to the LGBT community and helping young LGB people feel proud of who they are. As we had not yet given the group its official name, we handed that responsibility over to the young people, as it was their group…… on 18th July 2007 the youth group was renamed BLAH; it was the official start of so many great things to come.

On 21st May 2009, Norfolk LGBT Project was registered as a charity and continued to go from strength to strength. In 2010, Norfolk LGBT Project was commissioned by NHS Norfolk & NHS Great Yarmouth & Waveney to promote sexual health for the LGBT community in Norfolk & Waveney, taking over from Neil Kittle who ran TEN (A community based HIV prevention & sexual health promotion programme working with & for gay men, bisexual men & other men who have sex with men). The rest as they say is history!!

Norfolk LGBT Project currently employs one full time member, 4 sessional workers and 6 volunteers who facilitate BLAH LGB Youth Groups.

Norfolk LGBT Project is a community based service run by & for the LGBT community. It is a service influenced by the needs of its service users. We believe that by working in partnership with local groups, communities and organisations that we can provide the best possible service for the LGBT community in Norfolk & Waveney.
